The Totally Teatime Cookbook (Totally Cookbooks)
Published in Paperback by Ten Speed Press (November, 1995)
Authors: Helene Siegel, Karen Gillingham, and Carolyn Vibbert
Average review score:

Little book packs a punch
I am amazed at how great this tiny book is. It's packed with great recipes and lots of fun tea facts and history. It has no pictures, and usually I'm a staunch photo advocate, but they're not needed, as the directions are very easy to understand and follow.
You do need a food processor for many of the recipes, as tea sandwiches often use a pureed filling, and the assembly required for most is not for the faint at heart. You need time and dedication to carry out most of these, although some quick breads, cookies and sandwiches are an exception. But if it's an impressive spread you want, this book is a great buy. (I have other tea-time books that are bigger, more lavish, much more expensive, and not near as useful as this one!)

Favorite before ..... more so now!
This little (?) book has been a favorite. But since going to England, it has become an even bigger must have for me. The recipes are as authentic as I have seen. We stayed at a B&B and she used ones nearly identical - at least I couldn't tell by the taste that there was a difference! We also had tea at Sally Lunn's and the recipes from there are truly right on. I am so glad I had this before I visited. Now I would be "lost" without it. A must have for anyone who loves tea!

Totally Nice
This little book with the attractive cover is a great source for making teatime eatables. Sandwiches, scones, buns, and pastries are doable with these easy recipes.
I had heard of Sally Lunn bread and Welsh Rabbit and here is a recipe that combines both. And the gingerbread cake brings back memories when my mother used to bake us gingerbread cakes.
You can pick this little book at gift shops, gourmet food shops as well as bookstores. Can stand with the best of my tea accessory books.

The Unlikely Celebrity: Bill Sackter's Triumph over Disability
Published in Paperback by Southern Illinois Univ Pr (Trd) (November, 1998)
Authors: Thomas Walz and Barry Morrow
Average review score:

Everbuddy Needs a Good Buddy
The story of the life and times of William ("Bill for short") Sackter is as remarkable and inspiring as any in American history. Bill's story is re-told by his good friend Professor Thomas Walz (now retired from the social work department of the University of Iowa) in such sharp, believable detail as even to go so far as to write the majority of the book from Bill's point of view, using the sort of speech, broken perhaps but very gripping, as Bill had used; this aspect brings a great deal of accuracy to the book. The Bible says in I Thessalonians 5 to rejoice always and to give thanks in all circumstances. Bill Sackter took these principles to the extreme, and as a result, made everyone who knew him take a much closer look at themselves and the world around them. His life still has that effect on people today.

I'm not going to say here what all happened in Bill's life; the book will do a much better job of that than I. However, I will simply say that this book will open your eyes to an incredible sense of optimism little known in the world we live in today. I can't imagine someone reading this book and being disappointed.

One thing more: for those of you who have seen and loved the movies "Bill" and "Bill On His Own" (which have been out of print for who-knows-how-many-years), they are available from the very good people at Wild Bill's Coffee Shop at the University of Iowa.

I Get by with a Little Help from my Friends
This book is a love feast. Story after story of Bill and the "frens" who were fortunate enough to be a part of Bill's circle, including the regulars on the bus who were cheerfully greeted upon boarding, the day care children who had a happy transition from parents dropping them off for day care, the nice lady prostitutes who enjoyed his happy harmonica tunes when he was in Washington, DC to be honored for his achievements. Not only does the book make you glad to know about Bill's magnificent gift of loving, it gives hints about how to nurture that in life. The book is for everyone who celebrates the great diversity of gifts that make life wonderful

An inspiring story, beautifully written
This uplifting story will appeal to anyone who is interested in how the human spirit overcomes great adversity. It is also of local interest to residents of Iowa City, as it recaps events that happened in this town and on this campus. A thoroughly enjoyable read that I would highly recommend.

Average review score:

Lao's review
Includes history, poems and treatises about tea, tea houses, ceremonies, brewing, cups and vessels, varieties, and the effect that tea has on the physical health and psyche. Everything you need to know about Chinese teas is contained in this book. A very welcome addition to anyone's culinary library!

mmmm ..... Pu-erh
Great in-depth overview of the varieties of tea and drinking vessels! You need this book.

An absolute WEALTH of knowledge
This man, though not Chinese, truly knows his subject and loves it. It shows all through the book. its a masterpiece! a simply MUST HAVE for all admirers of tea or the Chinese culture/ppl/way. Perhaps in a way it is fitting that the author is not Chinese. It shows that even a barbarian [foreigner] can learn something so different when he has enough love and time and determination.

New Way of Looking at Things
I picked up this book about a month ago. I was able to read straight through it in about 1 1/2 hours and understood everything, however, I'm slowly absorbing it as each day I pick it up, flip to a random page, read a section, and keep that with me throughout the day. What I like best about the book is how it makes me look at my world and my actions differently; it makes me consider what I do more carefully and it keeps reminding me of all the chances I have every day to do what I want to do. The technique I have of reading a small section and absorbing that to the fullest isn't how one has to read this book. It provides questions for those who like to sit and ponder things or write about them, and it has affirmations for people who want to get the point quickly. I think this book gives few boundaries and excellent options for ANYONE to absorb the important messages it contains. I love knowing this book is sitting in my book shelf.

This is the one to get!!
I can already see the positive effect the concepts in this book have had and will continue to have on my life. The book doesn't present thoughts from only a single point of view. You create your own life plan using very simple and basic principles. I look at people differently now. I have a greater level of respect for myself and I will never allow anyone to lower that level of self-respect again. I'm just not afraid to ask for the things I need anymore. This one tops my list because it really works.

Insightful
On a whim I picked up this book for leisure and ended up using it to take another look at my life. This beautiful book is small but absolutely crammed with remarkable insights. It could even be a magic bullet. Really! It makes so much sense. Dont' get me wrong. You still have to do the work. but it's so much fun to really pick apart the questions and feel the pieces of your life just falling in place. Now I carry this book everywhere with me. I ask my friends some of the questions in the book and we talk at a deeper level than we ever have. Anyone who loves life or wants to must read this book.

The Little Book of Healthy Teas
Published in Paperback by Warner Books (March, 2002)
Author: Erika Dillman
Average review score:

This book rocks!
Excellent book. In fact all of Dillman's books are excellent and the right length to introduce you to each particular subject all of which seem relevant and timely. The little book of Healthy Teas also passed my English Wife's scrutiny particularly for making teas. I appreciated Dillman's extensive overview of teas as well as including some that are not readily sipped in the US, such as yerba mate. The writing is sharp, witty and concise--highly recommended.

loved it!!
A wonderful read with excellent content. Ms. Dillman uses sharp and interesting language to provide valuable information about the ways in which we can integrate tea into a healthy lifestyle. I shall recommend it to many friends and colleagues and stay tuned for the next "Little book".

If you have any health problems - I urge you to buy this boo
I have a condition known as ME in the UK and Chronic Fatigue inthe the USA. I found this book really helpful - just by making a sligh adjustment to my liquid intake I have been able to improve my health and overall energy. Dillman explains how including green rea (for example) or roobush can boost your flavanoid and anti-oxidant intake - which will help just about any condition - and has an anti aging effect as well! Some really interesting information is in this book - which I just didn't know. It makes a fascinating and useful read.

Sandy's Tea Society: Delighting in Friendships Steeped in Love
Published in Hardcover by Harvest House Publishers, Inc. (January, 2001)
Author: Sandy Lynam Clough
Average review score:

Delightful and fun...
I love this book! Consider this a tea party idea book delivered in narrative form. In the beginning we meet Sandy, who invites a few of her closest friends to join her Tea Society and host a tea of their own. They each have very different personalities, which provides inspiration for their party themes. Each chapter is dedicated to a character's tea party and is chock filled with recipes, decorating and hostessing ideas, as well as insights into their personal lives. This is a book I will surely treasure and pass on as gifts for the holidays. It is beautifully written and illustrated, and oh so clever!

Enjoy.

Wonderful Book!
This book is a treasure trove for people who don't get "the tea thing". Beautiful artwork accompanies recipes and ideas for creating truly memorable teas. I gave a friend the book, which she read in a day, and called me to say "I want friends like this -- let's be friends like this!"

A Charming Book!
As an avid tea party lover, I can't say enough about this book. What a treasure indeed. I love the way she tells the story of each character and how she incorporates their personalities into themes for each tea party. The ideas are lovely and I have already used some of the ideas not only for teas, but to give as special gifts to friends. I could not put this book down until I finished it. I will re-read it several times. It is lovely to look at and the story is so charming. Wonderful recipes are a bonus. If you love tea and sharing special moments with friends, this book is for you! I am buying this book for all of my special tea friends!

Coffee to Die for: A Professor Teodora Morelli Mystery
Published in Paperback by Twilight (December, 1998)
Author: Linda French
Average review score:

Good reading
I have a soft spot for the Pacific Northwest so I was already inclined towards this story. It really evokes a sense of place. While the plotting and characterisations were somewhat two dimensional, this book still represents an undemanding and enjoyable quick read for a lazy afternoon.

A charming and witty book, full of rich imagery
The lively plot and descriptions carried me through this book so quickly and pleasantly that I wasn't finished with the book when the story was over. I miss the characters. They, in the 350 pages, had become some of my best friends. I hope the author writes another soon because I am so lonely without Teddy and her entourage.

An intriguing mystery beautifully described in Pacific NW
This little book was fun to read.

The author has a wonderful way of mixing rich, descriptive language, intriguing situations and subtle humor in a way that is attractive and enjoyable. Like so many good works of fiction, especially mystery, I found it a challenge to halt my reading at the end of the chapter after the budgeted time for reading was exhausted, and so was I late at night.

Teddy Morelli, the principal character in this series, is someone who I would like to meet. She is bright, energetic, a bit mischievous, and comes across the most interesting characters from a wide range of life that one could imagine. In Coffee to Die For Teddy meets with drug-dealing Alaskan fisherman one minute, uptight university administrators the next, and always, always there is family.

The most attractive part of this book is the rich language describing the sights, sounds, smells and character of the Pacific Northwest in such a succinct and pleasant way. It certainly makes me want to visit there soon to experience what Linda French sees and lives.

As I think back to our childhood, growing up in Atlanta, Georgia, I can relate those experiences to the foundation of her writing skills.

I eagerly await the next installment in the Teddy Morelli series.

Country Tea Parties
Published in Hardcover by Storey Books (September, 1996)
Authors: Maggie Stuckey and Carolyn Bucha
Average review score:

a beautiful book on tea parties
This book starts with 4 pages of tea history and brewing instructions and then has 3 pages of "how to's" for tea parties. There is a theme tea for every month with menus and suggestions. There are approximately 4 recipes included with each month, so having another tea-time cookbook is advisable. Two of my favorites are "The Book of Afternoon Tea" by Lesley Mackley and "Totally Teatime Cookbook" by Helene Siegel.

As far as "how to's" for tea parties, "Tea with Friends" by Elizabeth Knight has more information, but fewer recipes. Even so, this makes a beautiful gift book.

Let's have a tea party!
If you've ever wanted to host a tea party but didn't know where to start, this is the perfect book to get you started. Great party menus, great recipes, and enough information about tea to teach the beginner. A must have for any tea- lover.

A little something for everyone!
Everytime I go throught this boook I find soemthing new. The book is complete with history and fun and creative ideas for any occassion. The receipies are good and simple. Delightful insights in every chapter. A must for your tea collection.
